Redbank Plains State School 150th

On Saturday 9 November, Redbank Plains State School celebrated 150 years of education. The sesquicentennial anniversary commenced with an opening ceremony in the school hall, with approximately 1000 people in attendance. Perry Trattos, Principal, was the master of ceremonies and the official guests for the opening were:


  • The Honourable Shayne Neumann, Federal Member for Blair
  • Mr Lance McCallum, MP, Member for Bundamba
  • Mr Hugh Goodfellow, School Supervisor
  • Mayor Teresa Harding, City of Ipswich 
  • Councillor Pye Augustine, Ipswich City Council 
  • Aunty Joanne – Elder
  • Mr Pat Lynch, Principal 1974-1980
  • Mr Evan Willis, Principal 2016-2019
  • Ms Pamela Coyle, Principal 2019-2023
  • Mr Ken Rice, child of Ron Rice (Chairman of the Redbank Plains State School Centenary committee)
  • Mr Robert James, grandchild of Alfred James (Principal 1913-1922)
  • Mr Harold Brennan, past student, class of 1935
  • Mr Michael Pick, architectural historian and member of Ipswich Historical Society
  • Ms Sheena Wharton, Brisbane Broncos

The opening ceremony included student performances and speeches.  After the event, the time capsule was unearthed after 50 years and pictures of its contents can be found below. The original documents are in the safe hands of the Ipswich Historical Society.  After unearthing the time capsule, attendees enjoyed food and market stalls, as well as entertainment rides, located on the senior oval.  

On December 2, 2024 the school closed the time capsule for 25 years. On this day, approximately 700 students touched the time capsule cylinder in the hope they will remember this in 2049​​.
