Next week we will be celebrating NAIDOC week at Redbank Plains State School. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. This year the theme for NAIDOC Week is “Because of her, we can!” and celebrates the essential role that women have played - and continue to play ...- as active and significant role models at the community, local, state and national levels.

On Friday 27 July a whole school NAIDOC assembly will commence from 9:15am in the hall. We will have performances and presentations by our students to celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. All parents and carers are welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing you there! We will be celebrating NAIDOC week at Redbank Plains State School in many ways. Our classes will learn about the Torres Strait Islander culture and learn a dance; they will be creating some artwork and will be playing some Indigenous games. In addition, we will have an Aboriginal cultural display for students, the library will have displays and some classes will get an opportunity to be read to by our Community Elder, Aunty Theresa.
